(Or more precisely… a book).
Yup – here it is: the D Day. “Dessine-moi un Parisien” is coming out today. My little book.
Your little book.
Because it all started here guys. Right here, with you. If it wasn’t for you coming to spend a few minutes here to read my articles, this book would never have existed. So truly, on this special day for me, let me, from the bottom of my heart, thank each and every one of you. From those of you who comment and follow every article, to the more occasional visitor – each one of you made this book a reality. And thus turned me into a happier version of myself.
Saying that “Dessine-moi un Parisien” is your book sounds cheesy as hell, but I so very much mean it. I would never have continued to write without your support and enthusiasm. Plus, truth be told, Nicolas, my business partner here at O Chateau, would never have let me. I would also like to publicly thank him for letting me work on the blog and on the book. All this time I didn’t spend working for O Chateau directly meant and still means more work for him. So big up to Nico. He’s quite the business partner – and a real friend. This book is also very much his – no matter what the name on the cover is.
Now, I know that I haven’t posted here as frequently as I used to. The past few weeks have probably been the busiest of my life. On top of running O Chateau, wrapping up the manuscript of the English book, preparing the book launch of “Dessine-moi un Parisien”, we are also working on our new place. O Chateau is to move in a few weeks. New place will feature three tasting rooms and a wine bar. We’re talking over 350 wines in the wine list and over 32 wines and Champagnes to taste by the glass everyday. So since we’re creating the place from scratch, let me tell you: we’re busy – excited and happy as well. Should you want to be notified of the grand opening, just hit the “like” facebook thingy on the right part of this page and we’ll keep you posted.
Back to the book. There should be a few book signings in Paris and maybe en province in the next few weeks. I’ll keep you posted on that: it’ll be a real pleasure to meet some of you in person. In the meantime, the book should be available in a number of bookshops in France (if not, you can always order it). Good old Amazon is also a pretty easy way to get it.
First reviews are really good. So i’ll just keep my fingers crossed – hoping that “Dessine-moi un Parisien” might make for a good read, and maybe also a good gift for the holiday season.
As per the blog, it’s not dead of course, I’ll keep posting fresh and new articles that will not appear neither in the French nor in the English book. Might try to post an article in French see how that goes (make some of you anglos out there work a bit on their French for once…).
Anyway.
Today is a happy day.
And I owe this to you.
So merci – truly.
O.

i’ll have to work a little harder to read the book, but hey, i need to practice my french since i’m moving to paris in 2 months!
congrats!
Well done! Our loss of regular articles is the world’s gain. It is great following your observations in your second language. I look forward to the English version and will soon be acquiring and struggling through the French version. I hope the new location provides greater success and opportunities to spread your twisted observations on wine and life.
Nice! Come to PACA pleaseeeeeeeeeeee!!!:)))
You are welcome my friend! ;o) N.
CONGRATULATIONS ! Missed your bloging and happy to have you back. But it was worth it! Looking forward to getting the English
version, then deciding on whether to buy the frog version too.
Just returned from Paris et les greves 10 days ago. She’s the most
beautiful lady in the world!
Félicitations Olivier! Very much looking forward to reading it, especially after all the hard work you’ve put into it.
And am very excited about your new location!
Ho la la !
Congrats to you, I can’t wait to get a copy of the book!
But wait… what version should I get? I’m French, but I’m used to read your articles in English… is the French edition as funny as the English one?
When is the English one planned to be available (if not already)?
Thanks and bonne chance pour la suite !
Eleni… Merci. Worse comes to worst, the book is illustrated
. New location should be fantastic for anyone keen to drink good wines and to have a good time. Good luck with the French version!!
Craikite… Thank you very much from my twisted self
Prov… I hope, we’ll see. Bordeaux seems to be in good way. We’ll see if the other side is interested.
Nico… Cheers.
Ron… French and English versions will be fairly different in the end (article selection, drawings vs. pictures…). I’m really happy with the French book. Really a beautiful object – poetically illustrated. Paris pendant les grèves sounds awfully… usual, doesn’t it?! A bientôt au coin du bar.
Chez Loulou… Merci beaucoup. We’ll have a great selection of wines from the Languedoc. But you’ll have to try different ones though…
Pierre… Merci bcp. I tried to find the right tone for the French version. Some journalists seem to have laughed reading it – so that’s quite the accomplishment really. English version will come out in July, so we still have time.
What is this sickly thank you post?! This is so un-Frecnh that I had to check I was on the right website. You’re losing your mojo, Olivier. You had best hurry up and post some new entries before you lose it all together.
On a side note: congratulations!
congrats, olivier!
Congrats, Olivier (and nice write up in Le Point, btw)! I have just one question: When is the party? Bisous, Barbra
bravo bravo bravo
VLR… Is it the first time I sound un-French? Want more sickly stuff: I heard being grateful was a path to hapiness.
Rest assured: Mojo is still there. Publisher actually cut a few articles under the pretext of excessive mojo. Stay tuned: I’ll be back.
Maggie… Merci beaucoup
Barbra… Merci merci. I’m busy as in “Don’t even have time to throw a party”. But you’re right. I should. How about I will?!
Stéphan… Merci. Hope you can find the book down in Montpellier.
Cooooooooooongrrraaaat…!!!
Salutations
Congratulations to you Olivier, you deserve all the accolades you get! You truly are a unique writer and personality and it’s wonderful you are getting your experiences out in the world! Really, it is quite rare to have a talent like yours.
Your hard work with both your business and writing will pay off and I wish you all the success you desire.
Congratulations Olivier! Where is your new location? We are visiting Paris again in May 2011 and Ô Chateau is definitely on our itinerary.
A very special moment indeed and enormously magnanimous of you to share that with us though your insightful and amusing musings are the raison d’être and we are but the grateful recipients of a moment away from the humdrum. Every congratulation to you, Olivier. They say that there is a book in each of us but it is only the smallest of minorities who achieve its execution and the unforgettable moment of holding that book in their hands and not just their head/heart. A proud moment for all of your readership.
I am looking forward for the english one, to offer it, but will try to get a hand on the french version first. Congrats and enjoy the good time of having “good work done”.
JB… Merci beaucoup. A suivre.
Pam… Wow. I’m blushing now. You’re far too kind. Just trying to stay busy. But thank you so very much. I’ll read your message when I’m down.
Bryan… New address will be 68, rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau in the 1st.
Bleuu Blanc Rouuuge… Merci beaucoup.
Peter… Thank you, especially you Peter. Your patient attention to my (frequently so-called) words has vastly contributed to the readability of my broken English. I am just truly glad I get to share the joy of this book with many people. Even more so with people of quality.
Livordk… I am. Though I must say I’m working hard on the next piece of work (the wine bar that is). L’aventure continue…
I am touched. Good luck with the move – I too am based on a rue JJR!
Bravo, congratulations! I only hope that I might find this in a bookstore the Philippines one day. Or okay, I’ll just go to Paris to get this. I look forward to reading your book.
Congratulations!!! I can’t wait to read it and practice my French.
Merci M. Nicolas d’avoir partagé Olivier un peu! Good luck to you both with the move! Cheers!
Peter… JJR is the official nom de code here these days.
Merci bcp. The new place is a lot of work but hopefully, it’ll be a great place. I think Nico is going to give me quite a bit of crap with your comment. Oh well, je suis habitué
Good luck with reading in French. Should be an easy read I think.
Aurélie… Merci beaucoup.
Sharline… Hmm… I have my doubts for the one in French. If not, gotta love Amazon: http://www.amazon.fr/Dessine-moi-un-parisien-Olivier-Magny/dp/226405316X/ref=sr_1_12?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1287811754&sr=1-12. Thank you thank you anyhow.
Diane…
felicitations! just arrived in paris earlier today – if i get a chance to do some shopping this weekend, will definitely keep an eye out for the book
Tres cool! I remember stumbling upon your blog last year and laughing my head off. I really look forward to reading the book (and hopefully attending a reading and/or wine tasting soon!). Cheers & felicitations!
Bravo, Olivier! I couldn’t wait for the English version so I just ordered the French version … it will arrive in NYC at the end of the month!
Oh-my-god, what a beautiful day!!! I was waiting for that!!! I hope you’ll come to Britany
…
Mediapart review is excellent
good job !
Amazon.fr delivered it really fast. Great book, I plan to take it to French class next week. Merci, Merci, C’est trop drôle!! Je l’adore!
Olivier, how come none of the posts are dated? i want to know when you posted and when people commented!
Congratulations Olivier! I am straight off to Amazon to order it for my husband who speaks much better French than me and spent seven years living out your blog entries in Paris.
I, on the other hand, will look forward to the English version and then spend hours trying to improve my French whislt reading them in tandem
Congratulations! If you do book signings anywhere in Normandy, I’m interested! I will try to show up
Encore félicitations on a job well done. It was too funny and spot on not to gather interest
Olivier
couldn’t manage to even reach Paris this week end.
Maybe next time
Stéphan
CONGRATULATIONS et BRAVO!
What a wonderful birth.
Question – yr book title says ‘Parisiens” but you use ‘Parisian’ over and over in the blog.
Which is correct?
I’m mystified
Lil…Thank you. Hope you had a good time!
Sweet freak… That is a hell of a screen name. Thank you though. Hopefully the book won’t disappoint.
Judy… Hope you liked it. Merci.
Ansoiz… Melove Brittany.
Jenny Claire… Well, there are some illustrations!! Hope the book did wonders at home – and for your french.
Caelle… Thank you very much.
Stéphan… Surely. Next time the bar will be open. So no excuse.
Paris breakfast… Merci beaucoup. Parisiens is in French. Parisians in English. The English book will be called “Stuff Parisians Like”. (quite original, I know).
Congrats!
Congratulations on your book! I’m heading to Paris with my husband and two fellas after Christmas, and your website is so fantastic. Thanks so much for all this. And best of luck with your book.
Congratulations on your book! I bought it today at Le Club, Brussels. «Putain, c’est hyper bien».
F.
Olivier
Santa found your book so good some Parisiennes will have it in their sock
Stéphna
You’re slipping, Olivier!
Hello Olivier !
Long life SPL
Murielle
On me l’a offert et je dois dire que c’est un délice
I discovered this little book with its red and black cover and catchy title in a bookstore 2 days ago when doing my last-minute Xmas shopping here in Luxembourg city. I opened it at random and fell upon the chapter about Americans – of course! lol… started reading the first lines and thought it was very funny so I bought it and am halfway through it. Love it Olivier! Congrats!
)
So, when are you going to write the sequel?
Seattleite… Merci!!
Ann… You are very welcome. Hope you enjoyed your Paris experience.
Efe… Did you like the “Les Belges” article?
Stéphan… Did you grow a beard?
VLr… I saw that and posted a new article the next day. Am I attentive or what?!
Murielle… Merci beaucoup. “Support your dealer”: sounds like a T Shirt some Parisians would wear.
Greg…
Athena… Hadsomeone a year ago told me “you will write a book, and someone in Luxembourg City will buy it”, I would have thought that person was on crack. As per la suite des aventures, well, English book is coming out in July: http://www.amazon.com/Stuff-Parisians-Like-Discovering-Quoi/dp/0425241181/ref=lh_ni_t_?tag=vglnk-c498-20
Bonjour,
Olivier, you see where DMUP has ended up?!? Even in little ole Luxembourg! (Only 2 hours from Paris by TGV by the way…)
And on its way to more exciting adventures and journeys in faraway lands… and a huge success!
