Pierre Quinonero – Domaine de la Garance

pierre-quinonaro

What is your job? My job is a paysan winemaker, for in paysan is pays (country) and paysage (landscape). One must love the place where one lives and try to make it more beautiful. It is then my passion and my job to make the landscape always more beautiful while respecting it.

Where is your domaine? My domaine is situated in the Languedoc region, next to a splendid town named Pézenas, in a small village called Caux.

Why did you choose  to be involved with wine? Out of defiance and passion and also out of a desire to be independent.

Describe your wines in one word. Our wines are sincere, straightforward, and whole. One word is too hard.

Your best wine moment? My best wine moment is Rayas 1989.

Your favorite dish? Stuffed mussels

Your favorite film? My favorite movie is “L’Aveu.”

What does ‘terroir’ mean to you? An earth, and undersoil, a man, an artisanship, and a sublime desire. Overindulgence is dangerous for health, contains sulfites, all the phrases that make one dream.

A quotation about wine? “Wherever there is wine, there is civilization.”

What are you most proud of? My children

Your dream? To see my children grow up in a preserved environment.

Your idea of happiness? Wine, time, friends, animals, my family, and, and meeting other passionate individuals.

An essential quality for you? Honesty

The most beautiful place on earth? In nature. She is beautiful everywhere in the world, especially when she is preserved.

Your motto? Always forward.

I dont think that wine is an indication of civilization! That is pretty biased towards the West! However, I do deeply appreciate wine and am glad my friends, the Rogers, (who did an O Chateau wine tasting while in Paris) told me about this blog so I can read about French winemakers. It makes me want to go to Paris already!
