What is your job? I am a winemaker, but, thanks to my passion for the Internet, my job is centered more around the commercial and communicative aspects of the profession.
Where is your domaine? In the heart of Riquewhir, a city in the region of Alsace, which turns out to be one of the best places to go to experience wine and tourism.
Why did you choose wine? Wine has been in my family for twelve generations. Personally, I fell in love almost thirty years ago and have yet to fall out of it.
Describe your wines in one word. Pure
Your best wine moment? Finding that more than just wine, but people and memories as well, enter my mind when I bring a glass to my nose.
Your favorite dish? Marc Haeberlin’s babyback ribs with a truffles glaze and cabbage or duck prepared with red curry and basil.
Your favorite film? Most recently: Slumdog Millionaire; a more classic choice: Z by Costa Gavras.
What does ‘terroir’ mean to you? Le Schoenenbourg, yet, we don’t really show it off on our stickers…
A quotation about wine? You shouldn’t open a book about wine without having first opened 300 bottles. (Jean Hugel, my uncle who just recently passed)
What are you most proud of? That our family created the Vendanges Tardives
Your dream? To hold a wine tasting straddling the border between Israel and Libya: the clients would include people from the two countries and the three different faiths existing within them. Barack Hussein, YES, you can!
Your idea of happiness? To wake up every morning excited and happy about the day that awaits me.
An essential quality? Honesty, respect, and tolerance.
The most beautiful place on Earth? Bali, without hesitation. It has everything. It truly is lacking nothing, not even Hugel wines, which are present on every good wine list.
Your favorite swearword? Gotverdammi in Alsatian. hugel2
Your motto? The Euro
because to finally live in peace with all Europeans truly is a luxury Alsatians celebrate.
Any last words? Wine is a brilliantly social device when drank often, but in moderation. It’s time that everyone finally experiences the incredible diversity Alsace offers. You must ask yourself: when was the last time you had a bottle of Hugel wine? The 2007s and 2008s are a great excuse. That, and you’re a no further than a click away:
