Celebration Time – Book & US Book Tour

First things first, please allow me to apologize for having gone MIA.

All the little seeds I’ve been planting over the past seven years all seem to be flourishing at the same time. I feel truly lucky. Opening the new O Chateau wine bar has been a lot of work and has not allowed me to blog as much I wanted to. It’s been great fun and response from both clients and the press has been tremendous – so that’s fantastic.

Amongst other great recent time-consuming developments, I’ve also recently started to shoot a TV series about wine that will soon air in France and in a number of other countries (more details coming soon…). In short, the show will be about a silly French sommelier traveling through the wine regions, exploring and sharing his passion… I’m still in the midst of filming this, which is loads of fun but also keeps me away from my computer a fair bit…

Good news all around these days as “Stuff Parisians Like” (the book) is coming out next week on Tuesday, July 5th. I just received today the first copies and cannot tell you how excited I am. Book looks beautiful. Many improved articles from the blog, plus a lot of fresh content, including new articles about Barack Obama, Expacts,  Clint Eastwood, La Place des Vosges, Money, Les Bons Vivants, Saying Trop, Interns, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, La Fleur de Sel, Le Métro… and others. The book is illustrated with photos of Paris and Parisians that I took, so please be lenient).

On this special day for me, I’d like to thank each and every one of you. This book would never have been published if it wasn’t for your fantastic encouragements and response to my articles. I’ve put a lot of work into this book, and hope you won’t be disappointed with it.

Should you want to buy it, please note that for another 4 days, you can order it on Amazon with a 40% discount. Great pre-launch deal!!

Anyway – so many good news, it’s nuts!!

So all work and no play making Jack a dull boy, it’s time to get together and celebrate.

I’ll be out and abouts in July on a little book tour stateside and hope to get a chance to meet and thank many of you in person.

So – the plan is:

Tuesday, July 5th – PARIS: The book’s coming out!!

Book signing & celebration in Paris at O Chateau from 6 to 8pm. You’re all invited. Then party at O Chateau all evening to celebrate the book release, my birthday and the 7th anniversary of O Chateau (all happening on the same exact day randomly enough: July 5th that is). So RDV at O Chateau – 68 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau in the 1st arrondissement as of 6pm.

Thursday, July 7th – NYC:

5.30 to 7pm – Book signing at: Rizzoli Book Store. 31 West 57th St. (between 5th and 6th avenue). New York, NY 10019. Ph: 212.787.5704. Complimentary white wine and Prosecco will be served. View Evite.

Friday, July 8th – PHILADELPHIA:

5 to 7pm – Book signing at: The Spiral Bookcase. 112, Cotton St (that’s in Manayunk) Philadelphia, PA 19127. Ph: 212.482.0704

Thursday, July 28th – SAN DIEGO:

7 to 8.30pm – Book Signing at: Upstart Crow (along with chefs Bernard Guillas and Ron Oliver Beats). 835C West Harbor Drive (that’s in Seaport Village) San Diego, CA 92101. Ph: 619.232.4855

Saturday, July 30th: LOS ANGELES

From 1-3pm – Book Signing at: Chevalier’s Book (bookshop owned by one of O Chateau’s former clients – love that). 126 N. Larchmont Blvd. (that’s in Hollywood) Los Angeles, CA 90004. Ph: 323.465.1334

I’m still working on arranging wine tasting classes in the San Diego, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara areas late July/early August. So I’ll keep you posted on that (should you be interested in attending, just write a little comment and I’ll make sure to shoot you an email when all details are pinned down). I wish I could visit other cities but since the publisher isn’t paying for anything for this trip, I had to keep budget within reason. La prochaine fois…

Alright, sorry for the lengthy post. I’m all over the place today!! I truly hope you like the book. Please don’t hesitate to spread the word about it. Makes for a great gift for anyone with an interest in France. Also, should you have journalist or blogger friends that might be interested in mentioning the book, just let me know and we’ll make something happen (team work, team work!!).

My life has gotten to be completely random over the past few months.

Lots of good things.

Feels nice to share – especially with those who made it all possible.

Hope you like the book – and hopefully I’ll see you soon in Paris or elsewhere.

O.

Olivier, we’ll be at your book signing in LA in July. We would definitely be interested in a wine tasting, and actually have a couple of suggestions for locations in the LA area if you are looking for venues.

    A bientot!

  2. Carole says:

Congrats, congrats, congrats! So much exciting news! Hope to see you at a booksigning Stateside.

  3. peter newman-legros says:

Le moment des grandes vacances arrive et tout s’envole! Bons anniversaires, bon lancement et bonne tournée! Qu’il cartonne!

  4. craigkite says:

Great work. I have my copy on order from Amazon. Now, if we could only figure out a way for you to stop at some of the Great Lake wineries in Middle America when you visit. We got some decent vines. Michigan: cars, bars and a few weirdos.

  5. Paul Menard says:

This is all great. I have enjoyed your blog for some time and now looking forward to reading the new content in book form. Very much congratulations on the book. I would come see you when you hit Philly on the 8th. But I’ll be down in Key West for the weekend. We will raise a glass to you on the 5th in celebration of you good news.

Please keep the blog going. I know you will be busy. Probably too busy to post regularly.

  6. Margaret says:

My copy’s already been shipped, I’m told! Looking forward to it. Too bad you won’t be in Toronto – I’ll just have to make it back to Paris if I want mine signed. ; ) Cheers!

  7. kala says:

Congratulations on the book, I’ve been waiting for it forever! I have a question though, I pre-ordered my copy via Amazon.fr, and after passing the order it was written that the book would be delivered November 9, 2011? I can’t wait that long. Should I have ordered it from Amazon.com instead? Do you think I should cancel this order from amazon.fr and reorder from amazon.com?

  8. Une femme… It’ll be great to meet you. And yeah, if you have a sec to let me know about potential LA venue, that’d be awesome (I’m struggling)!!
Carole… Merci merci merci. It is all quite exciting indeed. A très bientôt.
Peter… Après le pain noir… Merci pour votre soutien et vos encouragements.
Craigkite… Hopefully I can put Michigan on the list soon enough. Or is that another excuse for you to come to Paris?
Paul… Thank you very much. Key West doesn’t sound too shabby. Hope you have a fantastic time and that you find the book to be a good read. Merci merci.
Margaret… If I can provide an excuse ;-) Thank you so much for ordering the book. Hope you like it.
Kala… Option 2 is to stop by at O Chateau tonight where I’ll be doing a book signing. Other than this, I haven’t looked yet, but hopefully, English bookshops in Paris should carry the book. November sounds awfully far. Thank you anyhow Kala.

Olivier! Congratulations! This is all so exciting. Well done!
I’ll definitely be at the LA book signing, and would be interested in the wine tasting.
If you’re still in need of locations – try Silverlake Wine. Its an awesome space. http://www.silverlakewine.com
    Cheers (and happy birthday!)

It’s a shame you aren’t planning on a Minneapolis stop- we read the most books! There is also more than enough good beer to make up for the fact that our major contribution to the world’s wine culture is merely growing the wood for French wine barrels.

  11. peter newman-legros says:

I hope everyone had a great time last night! I’ve checked and it appears that certainly in the UK Stuff Parisians Like is published on 3 November by Penguin Putnam books, probably in time for the Christmas market I guess. And it would make a really good Xmas gift…

Strange then that the version available in France should be by the same publisher as in the US and yet share the same release date as the UK.

    Bonne tournée Olivier!

  12. Lil says:

olivier, congrats and happy belated birthday! i’m sorry i miss the event yesterday evening (i was away, just got back and only now catching up on blog reading etc – drat, one day too late) but i believe it was all fun and enjoyment. and of course, bon voyage :)

  13. Robert says:

    Olivier,
My book arrived yesterday. It is a hoot! I guess being in Seattle puts me closer to Amazon.

Anyone as funny and hard-working as you deserves the rewards that will surely come your way.

  14. Sweet Freak says:

O, no! Come back to NYC! I’m reading this post one week too late. I’m so excited for the book and would have love to have some wine and giggles at Rizzoli… might you be coming through town again??

  15. Ruta says:

Big congratulations on the book and all good things happening! We will be at the L.A. book signing and would love to attend a wine tasting in the area.

  16. Ash says:

Got mine at last. How excellent.
I intend to come for a signing (and a wine tasting) in the Paris bar when you are back from your US tour.

  17. MB says:

Just “discovered” you earlier this year planning a May trip to Paris – I can’t believe we missed this So Cal tour. If you are still in the area and do something in San Diego, PLEASE post the details. My husband would love this. In fact, we’ll put you up if you need a place to stay!

  18. Valerie says:

Got the book with me while en vacances in Provence and tomorrow Paris. Book keeping me in hysterics. Where are you? All the best and the good stuff!

  19. KK… Thank you again for coming to the Wine Tasting Afternoon at Old Creek Ranch – great memories.
Blaz… Books and wood would make for nice Minneapolis book shelves, wouldn’t they?
Peter…. Always helpful and accurate. Merci monsieur!!
Lil… Well, belated thank you!! It was indeed a great party and a great trip – now back at O Chateau!!
Robert… Many thanks for this. Should you have a sec to post a good review on Amazon, that’d be awesome. Thank you for all your encouragements. Heart-warming!
Sweet freak… (cool name). Yes, I’m sure i’ll be back. The event at Rizzoli was good fun. A fair number of people turned up so that was really a great surprise.
Ruta… Thanks for stopping by in LA. Was great to see you again. Many thanks for your support and continuous enthusiasm.
Ash… Merci beaucoup. Hope you like it. Will try to arrange a book signing in the coming weeks. A suivre…
MB… Thank you so very much for this kind offer. I actually did two events in San Diego (book signing at Upstart Crow and Wine Class at the Wine & Culinary Center). Was good fun. I truly hope to be back soon – what a great town!!
Valerie… Merci beaucoup. I am back in PAris now – hanging out at O Chateau most of the time: you should come have drinks and dinner on Tuesday night (chef is off on Mondays).

  20. Tracy says:

Hoping that you are still in SoCal and that there is a wine tasting in the near future

  21. Tracy says:

Just saw the last comment … sorry I missed you!

  22. jl says:

I just became a twitter follower looking at old posts and…OMG!! You were in Jackson, MS??? That’s where I live! I didn’t hear about a book signing or I would’ve come; but I hope you had a great time and did some good eatin’! Y’all come back now, ya hear?

  23. Linda Fernandes from San Francisco says:

OK I’ve got tons of fans of the book! We are reading and giggling after many glasses of wine. I shared your comments re “terroir” and they listened with great interest. You need to get your original book published in addition to recent book. You will have an even greater impact for generations to come if you are able to get that one out to the masses.

While you are getting back into the swing of things, I continue to point all my traveling contacts in the direction of O Chateau so treat them like old friends, Patti will be out for her birthday in September (wish I could join her but timing not right) and Nicky and Barb are out there last 2 weeks in August…they might show up anyday now.

The blog is still rolling…just like you said…this is how we roll these days! I’m sure it sounds better in French!

    Regards,
    Linda

  24. teeny says:
